Currently enjoying Bob Ellis's new book and so it went: Night Thoughts in a year of change. This collection of diary entries covering the years 2007-2008 continues in the same vein as his last book Night Thoughts in a Time of War. But this is a better book.
Ellis tends to overdo the name dropping and has an tendency to place himself at the centre of all major political action in Australia over the last 30 years but he writes beautifully at times and with great humanity and compassion. But there's also plenty of anger and spleen, much of it directed at the former PM John Howard and his Liberal- National colleagues and the neo - conservatives in the Republican and Democratic parties in Washington.
Highly recommended.
