Aboriginal people sue Andrew Bolt over racial comments

Interesting to see that right wing Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt is being sued by a group of Aboriginal people under the Racial Villification Act.

The Melbourne Age reports that the Aboriginal people are suing Bolt for comments he made in 2008 and 2009 in which he identified a list of light or white-skinned people who identified themselves as Aboriginal, and suggested their choosing to do so was proof of ‘‘a whole new fashion in academia, the arts and professional activism". In a later column Bolt derided the granting of an awards to an Aboriginal artists and academic he described as "white-skinned.

No doubt Bolt and all his racist and right wing supporters will cry foul and make claims about political correctness gone mad and threats to freedom of speech and liberty. But the right to free speech should never provide cover for racist, hateful, prejudiced and ill informed diatribes.
