What's playing today: Eddie Reader sings the songs of Robbie Burns

Saturday lunchtime here. My son is sleeping over at his mates and the house is quiet and still, and I am listening to Scottish singer songwriter Eddie Reader's CD Eddie Reader Sings the Songs of Robbie Burns in which, as the title suggests, she sings songs by the great Scottish poet Robbie Burns. Enjoying her beautiful version of one of my favourite Scottish tunes Ae Fond Kiss (available here on You Tube)

Eddie Reader is best known as the lead singer of Fairground Attraction which had a massive hit worldwide with the song Perfect which reached number one in Australia for three weeks in August and September 1988.

But Reader is a highly distinguished and awarded singer of traditional Scottish and British folk music. As well as numerous musical awards she was awarded an MBE in 2006 for her contribution to the arts and also honorary doctorates for her contribution to Scottish music.

Robbie Burns is of course Scotland's most loved poet.
